Among Us community director Victoria Tran tweeted that while the mechanics being similar are fine, they wished that Epic Games would have switched the names up a bit. According to PC Gamer, she also confirmed that the Fortnite Impostors mode was not the result of a collaboration with Among Us studio Innersloth. Studio co-founder Marcus Bromander echoed the sentiment, and later tweeted that they have been trying to get a collaboration going with Epic.

— Victoria Tran 🧋 (@TheVTran) August 17, 2021 It can be argued that Epic Games did put enough of a spin for the Impostors mode that it’s different enough from Among Us. That being said, the company did previously get into some legal hot water for the dance emotes that its battle royale game used.

— Puff (@PuffballsUnited) August 17, 2021 All in all though, the Fortnite game mode will likely face no issue beyond some internet blowback. As Epic Games have sufficiently defended itself from the dance lawsuits, chances are it will do the same if it ever goes that far this time. (Source: @TheVTran, @PuffballsUnited, PC Gamer, Lexology.
